Ardmore classifies chickens as livestock and bans roosters entirely within the city. Per Unified Development Code Sec. 5-52, livestock may only be kept in zoning districts of 2 acres or more (e.g., RS-40); typical residential lots (e.g., RS-6 / 6,000 sq ft) cannot keep chickens. In October 2025 the city ordered a couple to rehome six backyard hens for this reason. Backyard chickens are not allowed on standard residential lots.
